VE DAY 2020

Despite the current restrictions the 75th anniversary provides our nation, and our friends around the world, with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark and terrifying period. To commemorate this important time local commemorations were planned across the country as part of a three-day international celebration taking place from 8th May to 10th May 2020.

While we cannot meet up to commemorate there are still some activities we can all get involved with.

Join in the commemoration, with this simple VE Day Great British Bunting activity –

You can make your own special VE Day 75 ‘Great British Bunting’ to display in your window at home.

Here are all the instructions you need to get started using any paper, cereal boxes, string, ribbon, sweet wrappers, felt pens, poster paint you have or whatever you can find.

You can decorate your bunting with pictures of whatever inspires you, whether it’s those who fought on the frontline or worked hard on the Homefront, or whether it’s a celebration of enduring peace or your own personal hero.

Hang your bunting with pride over the weekend of Friday 8 May – Sunday 10 May and make sure you share your pictures with us and on social media using the hashtags #GreatBritishBunting, #VEDay75 and #BBCMakeaDifference.
