VE DAY 2020
Despite the current restrictions the 75th anniversary provides our nation, and our friends around the world, with an opportunity to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people from all walks of life who saw us through this dark and terrifying period. To commemorate this important time local commemorations were planned across the country as part of a three-day international celebration taking place from 8th May to 10th May 2020.
While we cannot meet up to commemorate there are still some activities we can all get involved with.
Join in the commemoration, with this simple VE Day lantern activity –
You can decorate your lantern with pictures of whatever inspires you, whether it’s those who fought on the frontline or worked hard on the Homefront, or whether it’s a celebration of enduring peace or your own personal hero.
Then maybe light them up over the weekend of the 8th May to 10th May 2020 and put them somewhere for all of your neighbours to enjoy.
(Please take care if using candles or other naked flames and ensure that your lantern is appropriately positioned so as not to catch alight and cause a fire risk.)
