Over the past year, our County Youth Commissioner has worked on laying the foundations needed to ensure we are on track with our youth-shaped strategy.

We are now in a position to step our efforts up a gear to ensure that we truly embed youth shaped within everything we do.

With that in mind, it is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of three Deputy County Youth Commissioners, focussing on support, events and programme.

Deputy County Youth Commissioner (Support)

Hi, I’m Andrea.
I have been a part of scouting since I was 10 when I joined 2nd Redruth as a scout. I then became an explorer at Five Carns ESU at 14 and started as a young leader with 2nd Redruth scouts.
Through lockdown, I provided a series of zoom sessions and activities for the scouts which they all enjoyed. Since turning 18 only months ago I have now become Assistant leader at 2nd Redruth scouts. I also had the opportunity to do my first away trip as a leader in March up to London for the Monopoly Live with Five Carns and Hellas Blocka ESU which was a crazy weekend of lots of fun and steps. When I’m not scouting I enjoy spending my time outdoors exploring the Cornish coastline and enjoying life.

Deputy County Youth Commissioner (Events)

Hi, I am Bella.
I have been part of the scout and guide family since I was 7, starting in brownies and then moving to scouts and continuing my journey there. In 2019 I was lucky to be selected as a participant for the World Scout Jamboree in the USA. This inspired me to keep progressing through scouting, leading me to be selected as one of the Cornish contingent’s 4 leaders going to the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in the summer of 2023.
Also, I will be heading off to Vietnam at Christmas to complete my Explorer Belt. Alongside this,  I am an assistant beaver leader within my scout group and working towards my Queen Scout award. When I am not scouting, I am a massive F1 fan and love lego. I am so excited to be joining this fantastic youth team.

Deputy County Youth Commissioner (Programme)

Hi, I’m Benny!
I joined Cubs age 7 at 5th Newquay and have continued with this group through Scouts. At 14 I joined 1st St Enoder Scout Group as an Explorer before moving to Poseidon ESU and continuing as a young leader with 5th Newquay Beavers and Scouts.
I have carried on working with the scout section with this group as an adult leader since 2019! Since then I have rejoined St Enoder as an assistant Cub Leader. Throughout my scouting journey, I have always worked with leaders to ensure the young people have got what they want out of their sessions!

Jordan Pidwell, County Youth Commissioner for Cornwall Scouts said,

“I am pleased to welcome new people into the County Youth Team. The passion each of them has for youth shaped Scouts is infectious and I’m sure they’ll make a great addition to the wider County Team, making great impact.

I look forward to working with them all on all things youth shaped and getting the voices of young people across Cornwall heard!”
