Last year Chantelle Down stepped down as our County Youth Commissioner, leaving behind a massive pair of shoes to fill after all her hard work and commitment to the role. Thank you, Chantelle, for all that you did during your time as CYC.

After a difficult year, we have now concluded our search for a replacement, and it is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Jordan Pidwell as our new County Youth Commissioner. His passion and enthusiasm are unlimited, and I am certain that he is the right person to help support us all as we look to restart Scouting once again, recovering and growing once more.

As a way of introduction, Jordan has written the below bio and even provided a picture so you can spot him once we are all out and about again!

Hello! I’m Jordan. I joined 5th Redruth Scouts at the age of 10 and stayed in Scouts for four years before joining Five Carns Explorers. During my time in these two groups, Youth Shaped Scouting was at the heart of what we did and the experiences and life skills I learned from my time as a young person in Scouts were invaluable. When I became an Explorer, I also became a Young Leader working with the Beavers at 5th Redruth and have been really keen to ensure our Beavers get a say in the programme they receive too (unfortunately we haven’t made it to the moon yet!), and continue to be a leader there almost 6 years after joining as a Young Leader.

In November 2019, I was asked to be one half of the Truro Youth Commissioner team and we worked as a team to quickly implement new ideas and events within the district. Once we felt people knew who the Youth Commissioners were, and what the role entailed, we took a step to launch the District Youth Council to allow our young people to directly feed into what goes on in our district.

…and that leads us to today! I’m excited to be taking on the role of County Youth Commissioner to champion Youth Shaped Scouting within Cornwall Scouts ensuring that our young people gain the skills and knowledge they desire, and that their confidence blossoms on their journey through Scouts.

We hope that you will all give Jordan the support he deserves as he takes up this new, challenging and exciting role within the County.
